| Bio: | Name: Clemence Alexander Age: 20 Birthplace: Raleigh, North Carolina Height: 5' 5" Weight: Roughly 115 pounds Occupation: Photographer Orientation: Heterosexual Clemence Alexander was born in Raleigh, North Carolina on February 19th, 1991. Her father, Marshall Alexander, was an engineer for a computer company and her mother Sharon Alexander (nee Smithfield) was an interior decorator. The youngest of five children and the only girl, Clemence spent a lot of time with her mother. It was she who imbued Clemence with a sense of aesthetic beauty, and nurtured her natural talent for photography. Another thing that Sharon Alexander passed on to her only daughter was an amazing sense of empathy; even as a young child, she displayed a remarkable awareness of the emotions of people around her. Her father was often very busy with his work, sometimes putting in twelve hour days. He tried to share his interest in science and engineering with his children, but they found it extremely boring. As his children got older, he became less and less connected to them. After Clemence's older brothers had all left for college or jobs of their own, she became more attached to her surroundings than to people, the exception being her mother. But even this failed when Sharon became ill. At the age of sixteen, Clemence found herself lonely, confused, sad, and most of all angry at the world for stealing away her closest friend. She felt angry at her father, who coped with the situation by trying to block out his feelings. Clemence could feel this, and felt as if he didn't care, as if he had already let go. Three weeks before Clemence's eighteenth birthday, Sharon passed away due to progressive stomach cancer. Raised by a protective family in a middle class neighborhood, Clemence was nothing close to being world-weary. She had no experience beyond North Carolina. She was tired of taking pictures of the same old things, she had told her father, and wanted to see more of the country before entering college. The truth was, she felt that if she could get away from Raleigh, away from the people in her life, she would stop feeling things so strongly. The death of her mother had been a devastating blow, had shaken the very foundation of her life. She was tired of feeling, and most of all tired of feeling the people around her. She mistakenly thought she could escape that by getting into her oldest brother's hand-me-down Volvo and taking a road trip of sorts. Her father didn't want her to go, but she was of age, and couldn't legally stop her. He also felt profound guilt over never having been close to his daughter, and couldn't bring himself to say no to anything she asked of him. He provided her with money enough to get by, and made her promise to stay in contact with him. She traveled for nearly two years, making extended stops in places of particular interest to her. The longest of these stops was in a rural Arizona town, where she got work with a small, independent art museum. She worked and lived there for nine months, and the pay kept her from having to wire her father for money. After that, she became restless and set out again, heading further west. She carried with her only her most important items: the rudimentary amount of clothes, money, cell phone, three different cameras, rolls of film, developing chemicals, a journal, and a laptop. Her next stop would be Nevada. Intimidated with the idea of stepping foot into Las Vegas or Reno, she decided instead to explore the smaller, out of the way towns, to see what they could offer her. Appearance: Clemence is of slim stature and stands approximately five feet and five inches tall. She is of wiry build, with longer limbs. She, however, is by no means graceful. She sees walking as nothing more than getting her from one place to another, and sees no point in trying to make it into anything more than that. On a busy street, she will often weave around people, walking fast and not making eye contact. Her posture is whatever she feels comfortable with at the time; if she wants to slouch, she will. Her view is that things should be pretty, not her. She has straight blonde hair that contains a slightly reddish hue, clear blue eyes, and an angular face. She dresses practically and doesn't bother with any enhancing effects such as makeup. However, when obligated to, she will dress up, and looks quite nice when she does so. That is a rare occurrence, however. Abilities: Besides being a talented photographer and observer, she is able to strongly sense the feelings of others. She is unaware, however, that she has the potential to manipulate those feelings. She sees her ability as a natural thing she inherited, and nothing more than that. She's never discussed it with anyone else, so she isn't aware that it's an unusual ability, or that it's even an ability at all. Strengths: Clemencies is observant and thoughtful. She can't help but be sensitive to others, whether she's reluctant to be or not. She is also open to new experiences and places, and will be polite to anyone despite being slightly socially awkward. While she can sense strong emotions, this is often unfocused and unorganized. For instance, in a crowded room, she is unable to connect the people with their emotions (see weaknesses.) Weaknesses: The aforementioned social awkwardness. She is also slightly naive, having lived a sheltered life. This has improved somewhat with her travels, but being a cautious person, she hasn't witnessed much to change her world view. She stuck to the beaten path, and in a way ended up sheltering herself. As far as her abilities, she remains unfocused and unorganized in that aspect. She is ignorant to the fact that she does possess an ability that has the potential to be an asset to her. A weakness in her personality is that she has an innate inability to think of things in a pragmatic, even logical way. She follows her heart, to a fault, even if that leads her down the wrong path.
